The Mask Confusion

Many people are confused because they are receiving conflicting messages on the necessity or uselessness of wearing a mask.

Since March 2020, the public has been told how to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this area, health officials have been slow to react and shockingly indecisive.

First, the public was told not to wear masks because the supply was needed for healthcare professionals. On Feb. 29, that was the tweet sent from the U.S. surgeon general who added that the masks were “NOT effective in preventing [the] general public from catching” COVID-19.

That did not make sense. How do masks protect healthcare workers if they cannot protect the public from the same virus?

As researchers learned more about COVID-19, they discovered that people could present without any symptoms and still be sick. They can spread the virus to others. The public was told that if they wore masks, they could stop infected people from spreading the virus.

This issue was actually discovered in February and became more apparent in March, but the CDC did not say anything until April 3. This is when the CDC announced the public should wear homemade cloth face coverings “as an additional, voluntary public health measure.”

On April 15, this changed for residents of Pennsylvania. The Department of Health issued an order that required customers and employees at businesses that were still operating to wear masks. In addition to Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland also require residents to wear masks when they are out in public.

The mask is not meant to protect the person wearing it, but for those in close proximity. This prevents someone who is asymptomatic from spreading the virus to others.

Keto Diet for Health

Keto

The Keto Diet (or ketogenic diet) is a low-carb, high-fat diet that offers people many health benefits. There are dozens of studies that can help a person improve their health and help lose weight. Some studies suggest that the keto diet could have benefits to help against diseases and disorders, such as:

  • Cancer;
  • Epilepsy;
  • Diabetes;
  • And Alzheimer’s.

The Keto diet is similar to several other diets in the fact that it is low-carb. Reducing carbs can massively reduce blood sugars and insulin levels. When carbs are reduced, the body starts a metabolic state called ketosis. This makes the body more efficient in burning fat for energy. The process also turns fat into ketone (in the liver), which supplies energy for the brain.

There are different types of Ketogenic Diets. The Standard ketogenic diet (SKD). This diet is a low-carb, with moderate protein levels, and is high in fat. Typically this diet contains 75% fat, 5% carbs, and 20% protein. Another version of the diet is the Cyclical Ketogenic diet (CKD). This diet consists of higher-carb diets, an example of this would be, taking five ketogenic days followed by two days of high-carbs. Bodybuilders and athletes use this type of diet when they are training.

Why People Turn to CBD

The two most significant reasons people turn to CBD oil is to gain relief from pain and anxiety. However, there are a variety of products to choose from and it can be overwhelming. Here is how anyone can find the CBD product that will work best.

First, consult an expert. The idea is to provide a safe and natural alternative to industrialized pharmaceuticals.

Bob Schriber, co-owner of Instant Karma in Hyannis reports, “When comparison shopping for CBD for any ailment, you wan to get the highest amount of CBD for the best price. The strength of the CBD is measured in milligrams (mg) and the strength on the package is the amount of CBD in the whole package. That means that the bigger the package, the higher the milligrams of CBD on the package will be without actually increasing the strength of the product.”

Homeschooling Works

In a traditional homeschooling program, families keep a structure that mimics the school setting. They purchase curriculum, tests, textbooks, teacher guides, and schedules. Parents who traditionally homeschool work with each child on one subject for a period of time. This requires a significant amount of hands-on teaching.

Many families appreciate the flexibility of homeschooling and are able to work school schedules around everyday life.

Traditional homeschooling allows the parents to choose a curriculum that fits their children’s needs and their teaching style, however, there is more to keep track of. There is also the burden of record-keeping, grading, tracking credits, and making sure they master what they need to know to succeed. All of this falls on the parents. However, parents can choose to share that responsibility with an accredited homeschool academy.

Online homeschooling programs are another option. Most of the online schools have prepared pre-recorded videos that teach the lesson. Students can rewatch these videos anytime they like to help them absorb the content. Tests and quizzes are graded immediately, so parents are aware of their child’s progression.

Online programs are not as flexible as traditional teaching. There are times your child needs to be logged into the classroom and there will be live videos scheduled during the school day.
